Fairy Village, Spider Web, Acorns, and Potatoes

Moss makes everything a bit more magical, and the kids were excited to build a village of fairy houses on our lovely patch of moss by the climbing trees. We had easy access to some natural loose parts like autumn olive berries, goldenrod flowers, and pinecones to use.

We also found a magical "cave" while on a walk in the forest, in a spot where a big beech tree had recently been uprooted.

We have an October tradition of weaving a giant spiderweb around trees with a ball of red yarn which always leads to lots of pretend spider play.

The oak trees have been dropping so many acorns. We've been colleting them, counting them, and using them in the mud kitchen. We made an acorn "machine" at the treehouse out of a cardboard box and tubes.

We had a blast harvesting potatoes in the garden with the Wednesday class. The next week we chopped them and cooked them over our fire.

We've been harvesting clay from the creek to make creations, playing memory match with our wild animal cards, and drawing, writing, and dictating stories in our journals.
