Our primary meeting place is Fairywood Farm, located on 5 acres in the peaceful forests of Smokey Hollow, only a 20-minute drive from Bloomington. We are adjacent to large sections of Yellowwood State forest and Hoosier National Forest, and less than a mile from Lake Monroe. An accessible hiking trail into Yellowwood begins a ¼ mile from our driveway. We are also just down the road from the T. C. Steele State Historic Site, which features the museum, gardens, and trails of the famous landscape painter. Our location is truly unique as we are surrounded by thousands of acres of public forestland, giving us the opportunity to expose children to one of the most bio-diverse regions in the Midwest – The Brown County Hills region.
A beautiful creek with waterfalls meanders through Fairywood, which is partially wooded. We have a pasture with a barn and coop for our chickens and alpacas, a large, sunny garden area, and another area for the forest school activities, with one section of the forest dedicated as an “adventure playground." Here kids can dig, swing, balance, climb, design, construct, deconstruct, and experiment freely with water and the elements.
